Ductless Mini-Splits in Rosalia

A ductless mini-split heats and cools one room or several without ducts. We size each indoor head to the room's actual heat loss, mount it cleanly, and give you a written quote before any work begins, so you know the cost and the plan up front.

What a Mini-Split Is and When It Makes Sense

A mini-split is a heat pump in two parts. An outdoor unit holds the inverter compressor, and one or more indoor heads move air in the room. A copper line set, a condensate drain and a control wire run between them through a hole about three inches across. Because the compressor speeds up and slows down instead of cycling on and off, room temperature holds steady and power use stays low.

It is the right call for an addition, a bonus room over the garage, a shop or a home heated by electric baseboards. It is usually not the right call when a home already has a working central system that just needs repair. In that case we will tell you so and point you to AC Repair or Furnace Repair instead.

For winters like ours, we specify low-ambient models built to keep heating well below freezing, with a defrost cycle that clears frost off the outdoor coil.

What Our Mini-Split Work Includes

  1. 01

    Room-by-room load calculation

We measure each room and account for windows, insulation and exposure. Oversized heads short-cycle and leave rooms clammy. Undersized ones run flat out and still fall behind on cold nights.

  2. 02

    Head type and placement

Wall-mounted heads suit most rooms. Ceiling cassettes and floor consoles fit spaces where wall space is short. We place each head where air can reach the whole room without blowing on a bed or couch.

  3. 03

Outdoor unit set above snow line

We mount the condenser on a raised pad or wall bracket so snow and defrost meltwater cannot bury the coil or freeze around the base.

  4. 04

    Electrical and permit

Each system needs a dedicated circuit and an outdoor disconnect. We pull the required permit and schedule the inspection. We are licensed and bonded in Washington and carry $1M general liability insurance.

  5. 05

    Repair on existing systems

We diagnose error codes, refrigerant leaks at flare fittings, failed fan motors and clogged condensate lines on mini-splits we did not install. The diagnostic fee is credited toward the repair, and you get a 1-year labor warranty on all repairs.

Signs a Mini-Split Fits Your Home

  • One room never matches the rest

A bonus room, sunroom or addition that runs ten degrees off the thermostat is a classic mini-split job. A single head fixes it without touching the main system.

  • High bills from baseboard heat

A baseboard heater converts each kilowatt-hour straight into the same amount of warmth, with no gain. A mini-split pulls warmth out of the outdoor air and pumps it indoors, so the same kilowatt-hour heats more of the room, most of all in spring and fall.

  • Window units every summer

If you haul window AC units in and out each year, a mini-split gives quiet cooling with a sealed wall instead of an open window.

  • Water dripping from an indoor head

On an existing unit this usually means a clogged or poorly sloped condensate line. Left alone, it stains drywall and can grow mold.

  • A blinking light or musty smell

Flashing codes point to a sensor, board or refrigerant fault. A musty smell usually means a dirty blower wheel that needs a proper cleaning.

How an Install Day Runs

  1. 1

    Visit and written quote

We walk through your home, run the load numbers, check panel capacity and agree on head locations with you. You get a written quote before any work begins, and estimates are free on installations and replacements.

  2. 2

    Mount and drill

We set the wall plate level with a slight pitch toward the drain, then core-drill through the wall. Drop cloths go down first, and we vacuum dust as we go.

  3. 3

Run lines and set the outdoor unit

We route the line set, drain and control wire, flare the copper fittings to torque spec and set the condenser on its pad or bracket. Exterior lines go in a painted line-hide cover.

  4. 4

    Pressure test and vacuum

We pressure test the lines with nitrogen to find leaks, then pull a deep vacuum measured in microns to remove air and moisture. Only then do we release the factory refrigerant charge.

  5. 5

    Startup and walkthrough

We check temperatures and drain flow, then show you the remote, the modes and how to rinse the washable filters. Most single-zone installs finish in one day.

What Moves the Price of a Mini-Split

Price depends on how many rooms you want to condition and how hard the lines are to route. We itemize each part of the job on the written quote so you can see where the money goes. Mini-splits are heat pumps, so we also help with claiming Avista rebates and federal tax credits on heat pumps where your system qualifies.

Number of zones
One head on one outdoor unit is the simplest job. Multi-zone systems add heads, a larger outdoor unit and more line set.
Capacity and cold-weather rating
Low-ambient models that heat well in deep cold cost more than cooling-focused units, and they are usually worth it here.
Line set length and route
A head on an exterior wall right above the condenser is quick. Running lines through an attic or across a second floor takes more material and labor.
Electrical panel
If your panel lacks space or capacity for a new dedicated circuit, panel work gets added to the quote.

Mini-Split Questions

Will a mini-split keep my home warm in January?

A properly sized low-ambient model will heat through most of our winter. On the coldest nights output drops, so some homes keep existing baseboards or a furnace as backup. We tell you during the visit whether your rooms need it.

How many indoor heads do I need?

Usually one per room or open area you want to control, since air does not travel well through doorways. A large open living space may need only one head, while bedrooms each need their own.

Do you repair mini-splits you did not install?

Yes. We work on most major brands, read the fault codes and test refrigerant pressure before recommending anything. Every fix comes with a 1-year labor warranty on all repairs, and we offer 24/7 emergency repair with no emergency or after-hours fees.

How often does a mini-split need cleaning?

Rinse the indoor filters every month or two during heavy use. Once a year the coil and blower wheel need a deeper cleaning, which our Maintenance Plans cover along with the outdoor unit.

Can a mini-split replace my central air?

Sometimes, in smaller homes with an open layout. For larger homes that already have ducts, a central system from AC Installation or a ducted unit through our Heat Pumps page often costs less per room. We will give you the honest comparison.
